June 2016 - Pentek New Software Radio Module with Texas Instruments ADC32RF45 A/D Converter
The Model 3320 FMC accepts two analog RF or IF inputs on front panel connectors into a Texas Instruments ADC32RF45 dual 14-bit 3 GSPS A/D converter with built-in multiband DDCs. On the output side, the Texas Instruments DAC39J84 D/A converter accepts baseband real or complex data streams from the FPGA. Each stream then passes through digital interpolation and upconversion stages before delivery to the D/A at sampling rates up to 2.8 GSPS. This sets a new benchmark for Pentek channel density and conversion speeds in a transceiver product. [Read more...]

Feb 2016 - NEW VITA 49 Protocol Engine added to PENTEK Cobalt FPGA Boards
Pentek's Cobalt Model 7X664 (200MHz 16-bit A/D) is first of the Cobalt range to be provided with an IP engine for the VITA 49 Radio Transport (VRT) protocol. The VITA Radio Transport (VRT) standard defines a transport-layer protocol for data and context packets designed to promote interoperability between RF (radio frequency) receivers and signal processing equipment in a wide range of communication and radar systems. The VRT protocol provides a variety of formatting options that allow the transport layer to be optimized for each application. VRT enables high-precision timestamping to provide time synchronization between multiple receiver channels. Context packets can capture very precise context for each signal, including antennae gain and azimuth, frequency, spatial location, temperature and more.The VITA 49 specification addresses the problems of interoperability between elements of Software Defined Radio (SDR) systems. Previously, each SDR receiver manufacturer developed custom and proprietary digitized data and meta-data formats, making exchange of data from different receivers challenging. With a common protocol, SDR receivers can be interchanged, enabling hardware upgrades and mitigating hardware lifecycle limitations, without the need to create new software to support each new receiver.
